St. Brigid’s
Church
Originally built as a temporary wooden church in 1920, today St. Brigid’s Church is a historic landmark in the heart of Toronto. RTM had the privilege of undertaking a complete exterior restoration, including a comprehensive slate roof replacement, decorative sheet metal work, and partial masonry reconstruction.
Project Scope
RTM was engaged to perform an extensive exterior heritage restoration on St. Brigid's Church. The project required the deployment of our in-house specialty trades to secure the building envelope against the elements while preserving its cherished architecture.
The scope included a comprehensive slate roof replacement and the fabrication of intricate decorative sheet metal elements. Additionally, our masonry team executed critical partial masonry reconstruction and heritage repointing.
Notable Details
The restoration was preceded by a thorough building envelope condition assessment, enabling our teams to strategically target areas of deterioration and ensure the long-term viability of the structure.
Given the building's scale and downtown Toronto location, safe and effective access was paramount. RTM's scaffolding division engineered and erected highly controlled access systems, allowing our slate roofers, metalworkers, and masons to safely restore the intricate rooflines and high-level facades without disrupting the surrounding community.
Final Result
The completed restoration successfully revitalized St. Brigid’s Church, transforming a structure originally built as a temporary space over a century ago into a beautifully preserved, enduring landmark.
Through precise building science, master-level slate roofing, and expert masonry reconstruction, RTM secured the exterior envelope, ensuring this historic place of worship remains a vibrant centerpiece of the Toronto community for decades to come.
