St. Joseph’s
Roman Catholic Church
Our work on the historic St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Stratford, Ontario, represents a complete interior and exterior restoration. This multi-year project featured complex and detailed work, ranging from intricate steeple and slate roof replacement to delicate mural and stained glass restoration.
Project Scope
The exterior restoration of St. Joseph's required comprehensive interventions across multiple trades. RTM executed a complete replacement of the historic slate roof alongside the fabrication and installation of custom copper flashings, with a particular focus on the complex geometry of the church steeple.
The building envelope was further stabilized and secured through extensive brick repointing, structural repairs, and the implementation of critical foundation waterproofing and drainage upgrades to protect the structure from grade-level moisture.
Notable Details
Beyond the exterior envelope, our specialized teams were tasked with a complete interior renovation of the church's majestic sanctuary. This included the sensitive installation of new flooring, delicate plaster repairs, and the meticulous restoration of historic murals that define the interior's aesthetic.
Concurrently, RTM conducted the specialized restoration of the historic wood and stained glass windows, securing the intricate glazing while improving the operability and weather resistance of the wooden frames. Modern lighting systems were also seamlessly integrated to highlight the newly restored interior without disrupting the heritage fabric.
Final Result
This comprehensive restoration was a tremendous project that fully revitalized both the structural integrity and aesthetic grandeur of St. Joseph’s.
It was a privilege to lead such a multi-faceted heritage endeavor. We are exceptionally proud of the results, having successfully secured the building envelope and ensured that this vital piece of Stratford's heritage remains a vibrant centerpiece for its congregation for generations to come.
