The Ontario
Legislative Building
Our work on the iconic Ontario Legislative Building, known as Queen’s Park in the heart of Toronto, featured a complete exterior masonry restoration, slate roofing, and interior chamber upgrades. As the seat of the provincial government, the work was expertly phased to allow the building to remain fully occupied by government officials throughout the multi-year restoration.
Project Scope
RTM executed a complete exterior masonry restoration of the historic Ontario Legislative Building. The comprehensive scope required the deployment of our in-house masonry, carpentry, sheet metal, and slate roofing teams to perform critical upgrades across the building envelope.
The exterior work involved full masonry stabilization and repointing, intricate repairs to the wood windows, complex repair of the building's skylights, the installation of custom lead flashings, and the meticulous replacement of the heritage slate roof.
Notable Details
Beyond the sweeping exterior envelope, the project involved complex interior restoration within the legislative chambers. Our specialized teams restored the highly decorative heritage ceilings and installed new, modern glass guardrails to enhance safety and functionality without compromising the historic aesthetic.
To safely execute these restorations on a monumental scale, RTM provided and engineered all necessary scaffolding, allowing controlled access to the intricate architecture of Queen's Park.
Final Result
This complex, multi-year restoration was performed under strict logistical planning and project management discipline, ensuring that the building remained safely occupied and operational for government officials at all times.
We are extremely proud to have contributed to the preservation of such a monumentally historic building, ensuring the seat of the Ontario provincial government remains a pristine architectural landmark for generations to come.
