St. John’s
Anglican Cathedral
RTM has had the privilege of working on some of the most beautiful and iconic buildings in Canada. Among them is St. John’s Anglican Cathedral in the heart of St. John’s, Newfoundland, where our teams executed comprehensive interior and exterior restoration across multiple phases.
Project Scope
This multi-year, phased project involved extensive interior and exterior masonry restoration on one of Canada's most historic religious structures. RTM's in-house teams were deployed to carefully restore and stabilize the heritage envelope.
In addition to the masonry work, our teams performed full-scale restoration on the cathedral's slate roofing system and carried out comprehensive scaffolding work to provide safe, highly controlled access to the historic facades.
Notable Details
Executing a multi-year phased restoration in the heart of St. John's required highly coordinated scaffolding work and logistical planning to ensure the cathedral remained safe and accessible to the community.
Our specialized teams navigated the challenges of the exposed coastal environment, utilizing heritage-appropriate materials for both the extensive masonry repointing and the delicate carpentry repairs. A critical component of the restoration was the specialized window and glass work. RTM's carpentry and glass installation teams restored the existing windows and expertly installed protective storm glass to shield the delicate historic glazing from extreme weather conditions while maintaining the building's authentic sightlines.
Final Result
The completed multi-phase restoration successfully preserved one of Canada's most beautiful and iconic religious structures.
By leveraging our diverse in-house capabilities across masonry, roofing, and specialty glass installation, RTM delivered a renewed, weather-tight building envelope. The comprehensive restoration ensures that St. John's Anglican Cathedral will continue to stand as a historic centerpiece in Newfoundland for generations to come.
